2001-02 Bloomfield Basketball Team

After a successful 2000-2001 season which saw Bloomfield's Basketball revival, the Basketball program continued in 2001 led by Coach Weng Carballo whom a year ago coached the team the whole year.

However, only Patrick Eusebio, Raymond Cometa and Rainier Tumamak were the only returning players from a year ago and a new group of players must be needed to replaced the players who had graduated.

After a try-out on July 7th; many players were chosen including some players who were called Under-Trainees. Coach Carballo put the names of Eusebio, Cometa, and Tumamak along with Richard Romasanta, Jonathan Castañeda, Erine Santiaguel, Omar Mabansag, Ivan Orbeso, Mark David, Edward de Sagun, Japo Barrientos among the Seniors, Juniors Lloyd Corpuz, Jonas Terrado and Sophomore JM Dela Cruz were also included.

The team finally played it's first tune-up game against the St. Marks School of Las Piñas at The BA Covered Court but lost a humihilating 80-40 score.

Then, Santiaguel and Dela Cruz were not allowed by the school to play due to academic and attitude issues respectively, Castañeda, being also on the Varsity Team in Volleyball, chosed it instead.

It was November, meaning time for LAPRISAA that started on the 12th against Blessed Trinity School and after getting a huge lead that was cut to only about three points in the closing seconds, BA survived to win their first game of the tournament. The Bloomers, picked up another win against cross-school rivals the Augustinian Abbey School.

However, Bloomfield lost the St. Marks again by a huge margin that gave them their first loss of the tourney, worse they lost their next game to a struggling Faith In Jesus in overtime after leading by as much as 15 points at one point.

After the two losses, Bloomfield recovered easily to beat Arclight School by a huge margin but lost the next game against Bernardo College.

With their record at 3-3 and with no shot of advancing to the next round, Bloomfield wanted to finished in style and they did beating the St. Joseph College in the last game of the tournament at Don Carlo School.

BA's last game against their rivals the Elizabeth Seton School was played at the Aguilar Sports Complex in Pilar Las Piñas. However, Bloomfield lost but they gave ESS a scare in the early moments by leading by four points.

But despite the loss, the players remained happy as they played there last game together, all of the seniors have graduated and those remained meant that the team will start anew again in 2002.
