2000-01 Bloomfield Basketball Team

In the S.Y. 1999-2000, no Varsity Team was established, or formed; it was a quiet year for Basketball in Bloomfield except for the intramurals, but in the new millenium, it was back.

Still without a varsity heading into September, the seniors wanted to have a varsity team since it was their last year in the school and they got their answer when Weng Carballo, a computer teacher volunteered to coach and revived the Basketball Program. He called for try-outs, he took players mostly Seniors in the lineup.

Quickly the next day after the team was formed, they played their first tune-up game against the St. Marks School of Las Piñas at The BA Covered Court but they lost by 20 points.

But the team continued to practice, by jogging as early as 5:30 in the morning, basic drills, practicing the plays and other things, it was that for about two months.

But by November, the school joined the LAPRISAA and the team was ready for their first and only tournament of the year. They matched up against an unknown opponent in Bernardo College.

It was a close game throughout and the Bloomers forced overtime after Bernardo scored a go-ahead basket with few seconds remaining. But in overtime, Bloomfield survived a win to advanced to the next round against the mighty University of Perpetual Help Rizal.

UPHR, considered as the toughest team in the tourney, proved to the Teczon cagers who's got game by beating the Bloomers by huge margin and also eliminating them from the tournament.

But, it was not the end for the team as they play one more game in March 2001, beating the home team Southville International School, their last game.

Later that month, the Senior Basketball Players marched the Covered Court and graduated; Villanueva was named Basketball Player of the Year by the school.

By time, this team could very well be put in BA history as one of the best team's of the school, to this day, the team is still remembered as one very great team.
