Bloomfield off to worst start in history
Monday, September 18, 2006

Times have indeed changed for the Bloomfield Basketball team.

Two years after the then-Eskumors dominated the Las Pinas Schools Athletic Association (LPSAA) tournament the first three seasons, Bloomfield has began its fourth season in league history with a miserable 0-3 start.

The horrible start began after the cagers lost their season-opener to the defending champion Elizabeth Seton School, followed by two lopsided losses against STI High School and St Anthony School.

Despite the efforts of leading scorer Aaron Pante, one of only two players remaining from the 2004 team that bowed to St Francis of Assisi College System in the championship, the Bloomers remain on the losing end.

In their season opener on August 25th at the Carmencita Covered Court, Bloomfield gave the defending champions a scare leading most of the first half. But several mishaps led to a poor 17 point defeat against Seton.

STI Academy, who has never won a game against Bloomfield since their first encounter in 2003, erased a Bloomfield rally in the third quarter winning 71-63 at Southville International School on September 9, as the green shirts absorbed their second loss in as many games.

The computer-oriented school never trailed from the start and led by double figures in the second quarter. Bloomfield did managed to comeback on baskets by Pante and defensive stops. However, Bloomfield went on to lose their momentum in the final quarter as STI took advantage of a weak pressure defense of Bloomfield.

In their third encouter on September 16 at the new Elizabeth Seton School Gymnasium, St Anthony won heavily against Bloomfield.

According to the LPSAA schedule, each team has seven games to play. This would mean that Bloomfield has four games left to play and their chances of a possible slot in the Final Four appears erased as of the moment.

Aside from taking a leave of absense from joining the league a year ago, Bloomfield had a streak of three consecutive Final Four appearances, the first team in league history to do so. In 2006, it looks as though the streak would end soon.
